The Headdress Affair: A Floral Fantasy

Think the Philip Treacy hat Sarah Jessica Parker wore to the Sex and the City London premiere was over the top?

The ultimate in extravagant floral headwear was seen at the 7th annual Tulips and Pansies: The Headdress Affair on May 15. The purpose of the event was to raise money for Village Care of New York’s various support programs for the 1500 AIDS and HIV patients they care for daily.

Some of fashion’s top designers such as Betsey Johnson, Catherine Malandrino and Lela Rose teamed up with New York City’s most prestigious florists to create the most imaginative and outrageous toppers using fresh cut flowers and living foliage.

The headdresses were judged on the categories ‘Most Outrageous’, ‘Most Beautiful’, ‘Most Original’ and ‘Most Engaging’.

If you were a judge, which ones would be your winners?

Wish they'd have some real hats you wouldn't mind wearing everyday to keep your hair from blowing away in the city.

I wonder how heavy these creations were. Thanks for the post.

I have to admit: I don't like this kind of headdresses - to much. They remind me of carnival but I think they are okay for a photoshoot.

Totally crazy, but the first one is my winner :-)

You have to hand it to SJP, she certainly not afraid to try 'out there' styles. Probably not something I'd wear but all these pics look amazing!

wow, they all look totally crazy. I guess the second would be mine, but not sure... I am ok with exchanging links;)

Well if they wanted outrageous then it was most certainly a success! Not sure which one I like the most either...but maybe the first one?

I liked SJP's Philip Treacy creation. I think only SJP would have been able to get away with it! So many of my housemates didn't understand it and thought she looked stupid. Maybe I should show them this post next time :) Oh and sure! Lets swap links :)

Thanks everyone for your comments and you're very welcome ellie and inaki. I also thought SJP looked great and the hat was not at all out of place given where they were.

Women get dressed up like that for the Royal Ascot every year so why not at a movie premiere?

It's good to see someone who isn't afraid to take risks and have fun doing it.

The hats in the fashion show are more works of art than everyday wear.

I admire the people who put these together because I imagine working with fresh flowers and plants wouldn't be the easiest thing.

The models deserve some credit too because, as you guys said, balancing those things on their heads doesn't look easy.

Not that big on SJP's style, but the hat really is great fun.

and yes, I'd love to trade links :)
