The Beauty of Geek

Ain't it funny how things turn around?

The historically unpopular geek style is now the look that everyone wants to rock. Stylish men and women everywhere are putting aside their fancy designer glasses in favour of the once uncool nerdy spectacles. They're updating in their glamorous wardrobes to include geek-inspired items like bow ties, striped cardigans and sweater vests.

I really don't like assigning titles to people, but many geeks actually don't mind being called this and some see it as a great thing that should be fully embraced. Really, what's so wrong with wanting to learn more about stuff like technology and sciences and finding sci-fi films and comics entertaining? What makes the things that geeks like any less interesting or socially acceptable than the things that the so-called cool people like?

I think it's fantastic that there are some people in this world that are more concerned about advancing their knowledge and skills in areas that interest them rather than spending every waking moment of their lives trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd.

Society changes its mind all the time so don't waste your time trying to conform.

So are you ready to show your love for all things geek? Check out these really cool items below.

Hi Danz-thanks for your lovely comment!! My jacket has been christened 'Charity' from where she came from, haha!! A great post, the computer dress and lego ring are my faves-I think they are fabulous picks rather than nerdy!! have a lovely day, dear Danz!!

i'm a geek. i love maths. i always liked the geeks in the hollywood-romantic comedies starring hilary duff better than the cheerleaders, and i'm not just saying that because geek style is en vogue now. it's really hypocritical, isn't it? the cheerleader queens in the high schools will continue looking down at the "uncool" geeks, WHILE WEARING GEEK FASHION. don't get me wrong, i like the geek clothes, but it's just ironic, isn't it? thanks for your lovely comment on my blog!

very cute entry. the geek trend makes me laugh a little though; you're so right about how things turn around. it's really rather ironic. in the old school movies the poor geeks are all in trashcans. and now everyone's trying to dress like them...

Ok the rubix cube earrings and the lego ring really crack me up! But I did buy my pre-schooler a star wars tee from Target, mainly b/c my husband LOVES the series- he is a little geeky himself but a wonderful husband- so I agree there's nothing wrong with being smart and sexy! Love the post!

cool! Etsy even has a whole section labeled Geekery now....

hello fellow bajee! i love to find the blogs of sisters-in-style...

funny, everyone's been commenting lately on the serious retro turn that fashion has taken. i have a love-hate relationship with it, 'cause not everything retro is cool!

mind you, i posted just the other day about how denise huxtable's (cosby show) signature, offbeat style has suddenly become de rigeur... crazy!

nothing is new anymore.
nothing.

i've been rocking glasses without a prescription for a while, but never have left the house. i would feel so silly actually running around in public with something 'fake' like that, but clearly it's a huge hit!

I like "dweeb" and "nerd" better than "geek," but I'll take any one of them.

I remember all these things—especially that t-shirt! I had one with R2D2 and C-3P0 on it. Now that's "geeky."

Such a great post. I am not a fan of the geek trend, but I am always rooting for the nonconformist, the underdog, and the desire to learn.

I can't agree more that how good that "there are some people in this world that are more concerned about advancing their knowledge and skills in areas that interest them rather than spending every waking moment of their lives trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd".

I think when I was a kid and a teen I fall in this kind of people, the one always reading, always with the eyes observing things trying to learn, and also the one left behind by others...

Great post.

This is such a cool post. I've been a huge fan of geek chic for many years, particularly the glasses. My favorite color combination for geek fashion is of course, black and white with a touch of colorful argyle to accentuate the chic-ness of my geek-ness.:)

Great items, Hon. You've done it again.

Great post, it is pretty funny that everyone wants to be a geek now. Alexa Chung does it very well. I'm a complete contradition, I'm such a geek inside (huge love for comic books and I was actually a chapter ahead in math) but I also love fashion so I look far from geeky and people never believe my inner geekiness!

i think a lot of fashion enthusiasts fall into the geek category. <3 it's all about just loving and liking what you like and not caring otherwise what others think about you. =) and i'm all about nurturing the geek in me. <3

I always thought the so called geeks had the coolest style in school to be honest and here we are totally embracing geek-dom.
those rubix earrings and the lego ring are my fave of the stuff you kindly shared!
love it! Chloe Sevigny was a purveyor of the geek kid look wya before it went mainstream, one of the many reasons I love her.
