Fatal Attraction 2 - The Maxi Dress

There are many reasons why women all over the world love wearing this floor-grazing dress style.

These dresses have a no-fuss appeal and are feminine, graceful and versatile. Also, the looser varieties have the wonderful ability to camouflage problematic areas along your lower half.

Beautiful maxi dresses were an omnipresent fixture on various Spring and Fall 2008 runways including D&G, Roberto Cavalli, Elie Saab and Gucci.

Maxi dresses are as popular as ever in Hollywood, especially with expectant celeb mothers.

Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, a pregnant Gwen Stefani and Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon prove that maxi dresses can flatter different body types and be suitable for both casual and dressy occasions.

Some of you may think that maxis only look fabulous on tall model-like figures but with careful selection, it is possible to find a style that flatters other shapes. Knowing your body type is the first step in figuring out what looks best on you.

Petite women should look for more form fitting maxi dresses that will visually elongate their short frames. Women who want to disguise wide hips and large thighs should wear maxi dresses in darker colours with enough fabric to easily drape over these areas. Large-busted women should find V-neck or halter-neck dresses with thick straps to adequately support this area.

Below are a few lovely maxis that caught my eye.

Maxi dresses have definately been big lately and I agree that they can work for almost any body type. I love that, even though I don't love my thighs, the flowiness of a maxi dress can definately make me feel better!

I have a maxi dress (found at Ross for $10) in an orange-red paisley pattern that I just adore! I wear it every chance I get, but I do have to find something else (like a tee with tiny sleeves) to wear under it, since my bust is too big to wear the dress alone. Right now I wear it with a little maroon tee, but I think it needs something with even smaller sleeves. But it's one of the most comfortable dresses I own.

I seem to be the only one around here wearing one, though. People here seem so backward, sometimes.

i love the look of the maxi dress but being only 5 foot 1 i'd have to take it up half it's length to wear it!

exactly, danz, the maxi is a great example of a style all heights can wear, but often shorter women think is not right for them. I've seen many not-tall girls really look fabulous in their maxis.

I like how you added something about petite and curvier figures. I was under the impression that (as you said) only tall women would look good in these and always wondered how people like nicole richie and eva longoria pulled them off. Great advice!
