Lace a lariat around my neck

To a cowboy, the word lariat means a long rope with a running noose at one end, used especially to round up livestock, also known as a lasso.

When referring to jewelry however, the word lariat refers to a kind of necklace influenced by this roping technique.

A traditional lariat is a long, open-ended, single strand necklace that is typically worn looped in a knot or used with a slide so that the two ends dangle freely. The traditional lariat necklace is very versatile and can be worn in a number of ways however, there are many lariat-style, clasped necklaces available as well.

Despite my affinity for funky, bold jewelry, I prefer lariat necklaces with an unfussy yet eye catching design. The clean and minimalistic look allows them to be suitable for many outfits, casual, business or formal, and add to them a touch of sophisticated elegance.

Lariat necklaces are becoming increasingly popular and have even been spotted around the necks of a few Hollywood stars. Recent sightings include Paz Vega who pumped up the glamour with a silver and emerald lariat, Ashley Tisdale who kept it cool and casual in her beaded version and Anne Hathaway who looked lovely and chic in a striking diamond piece.

Hi honey! Yay I'm first!!! (yikes that was so Perez Hilton). Anyway, welcome back, and GREAT POST today! I had not taken note of all these fab lariats until you pointed them out. Really like the diamond ones that all the stars are wearing, but glad I can afford one, too (maybe the silver stars!!). Btw, I am doing my corset post today and I am going to reference your recent history lesson; hope that's okay?? Smooches, CC

My sweetheart,

Hope you're doing well today. Those lariats are all beautiful, I think I fancy the ballet slipper one. Once again, and as per usual, a very informative and enjoyable post.

P.S. I made a boo boo and deleted your comment on my blog by mistake. Please come back and make a new one. You know I always love it when you visit.

Ciao my brilliant Bella.

Hey babe! What's going on? How is my Danz? You are too good to me, you know that?! Thank you for the ridiculously sweet comment - got me smilin' over here as usual.

You definately sound like me when it comes to clubbing - not my scene. It's nice once in a great while, but super hard for me to do. I hope your camera situation works out! I want to see more of your lovely style posts! I have to say though, I love Anne Hathaway's lariat/knot necklace. It's stunning and looks so intricate.

Next time you go clubbing - I'll come with you. We'll wear something absolutely-ridiculously-amazing and blow everyone away! I hope you're having a great day, beautiful.

I think the lariat would be really nice on you.

You are so sweet! Of course I'd like to trade links, you are totally added. :)

And can I just say that I actually just learned a lot from this post. If somebody had asked me what that style of necklace is called, I would have had no idea. It's such a break from the pendant though, which I have a zillion of but they so frequently compete with my neckline. Thanks for once again keeping me in the know!
