Patching things up with style

I'll admit it, when I hear the word 'patchwork' used in relation to clothing, the very first thing that comes to my mind is the quintessential country bumpkin in a modest dress made out of old pieces of cloth in many different colours and prints.

The next image I usually think of is the funky patchwork from the 70s. As the model in the photo shows us, wearing this look from top to bottom wasn't something out of the ordinary or intimidating to the eclectic and fashionably daring men and women of the time.

However, my mind is slowly beginning to see more possibilities with this style with the help of some fun and stylish pieces I've been noticing recently.

While browing the Spring and Fall 2008 collections, I realized that there was tons of patchwork on the runways including Dolce & Gabbana, Kenzo, Moschino Cheap and Chic and Matthew Williamson where the look appeared on both clothing and accessories.

    haha, I just thrifted one of those 80's leather patchwork bucket bags the other day. I think it's pretty cool. I was scared to admit it though. :)

    LOVE those Sperry's! Those are so damn cute, Danz! Nice collection of patchwork you patched together for us- bahaa (wow, that was terrible - I should never give up my day job...:P).

    Don't you just love that Givenchy dress for my party look? That collection just kills me every time I see it. Wantwantwant!

    oooh, modern day patchwork!!!
    i love this. i was starting to get seriously turned off by it b/c of all those heinous bermuda patchwork shorts from HCO and AEO and AF and stuff...but that's awesome. i love the dresses (both) especially.

    Great post. I like the patchwork trend. I bought a patchwork skirt at American Eagle Outfitters a couple of years ago, and I just love it. The shoes that you posted are very cute. I've been wanting to get a pair of patchwork shoes for awhile now. I haven't found the perfect pair yet.
